Dawg...

As much as you try to force ear-rape to come out of your hardcore, it doesn't always sound so.

However, you nailed it pretty well on this one. Haha. Gratz on that part I suppose.

As with the rest. Wait, what rest? It all was rape.

Nevermind.

I have one thing to say:

You need to go to music club.

PizzaBox responds:

I've successfully made an awful song!? YESS!!!!

It's about time.

Interesting Test.

The hi-hat is so un-noticeable, unless you're looking for it. So definitely keep it. As for the other drums, I like them, they sound pretty sweet.

The overall song reminded me something of a rollercoaster tycoon soundtrack. Of course there wasn't any drums like these in that game, however there was certainly that fantasy feeling.

The little tune is an interesting test, I think the only thing that didn't feel as though it fit, was the bass that came in with the drums. It felt a little off-note at sometimes. Maybe that's just me though.

Anyways, I like this sir. It's very peaceful, yet still carries a nice beat. Cool stuff yo.

Lamplighter responds:

The bass... it sounded better on headphones, I think. I mixed this on little earbuds, so you could hear the notes in the bass differently. It's definitely something that could be fixed, but I'm not going to bother with it. Thanks for pointing that out, though.

I think "groovy ambient" is the sort of style I'm into right now. Merci pour cette critique!

Well then.

I can't say this is the best thing I've ever heard.

However, it's close.

The melodies, and synths are rather simplistic, but they make a nice sound. The bass is a little strong, but I'm using some bass amp'd studio phones, therefore it should be.

Now what really caught my attention was your drums. They sound amazing. Generally I can place a beat I hear into a sequence, but this one is so out there, that I just can't picture it. I like it.

As with the whole tune? It's amazing. The melody sounds awfully familiar, but I can't place a finger on what I'm thinking.

Whoa.

How's your mind? Has it exploded yet? Yes. My mind is blown.

This is so crazy. It's thrown out there, and I love it. The drums are full of kick-assery. The stinginess of the snare is excellent, I definitely like it.

The guitars are full of win. The heaviness in the chorus, is... overwhelming. In a good way however. It empowers your voice, and makes the whole song that much better.

Your voice, sir, Your voice is excellent. You have an extremely versatile voice, and I applaud you for that! Great harmony throughout the extreme parts of the song.

I love this band. I require more from you guys.

MOAR! NOW.

I can see this being almost like a Goth song?

This is... disturbing. However, I can't say I don't like it. It's... Yeah. I can definitely hear some Korn in it.

I like the bass in the song, it's not like the normal ultra-repetitive bass, this one has a lot of variation, and I appreciate that greatly.

Near the end. Wow. That's what made the whole song for me. The WHOLE song. That extreme grunginess, and the heaviness, along with the background vocals.

Yeah yeah.

Sir. I like what you've got so far. I'm expecting more soon.

Harm.... I mean... hrmmm...

You don't sound to rusty in the least.

Now that lower background synth does. Tis for sure. I don't know how I feel about it, but I think it suites the song well enough.

I really like the synth choice you used for this. It definitely flows well together. Sounds almost like a half-life sound track in my opinion.

The drums were freaking awesome, I just wish they stood out a little more, to get a bit more presence from them. Course, I'm a drum freak... so. Haha. I think they worked awesomely. I especially loved all the hi-hat work you did. The dynamic changes and such sound great.

So, no, failure is not showing. New style? Maybe...

Lamplighter responds:

I think my mixing really messed up one of the synths, maybe that's the one you're talking about? Or perhaps its the bass you mean? Either way, I'm glad you like the synth choice.

Half-Life? Ah, I like that soundtrack. That's a compliment indeed :)

I think the drums were actually my favorite part, especially when they come in after the piano. I spent more time on those then anything else, and I'm glad it showed :D I'll work on giving the drums more presence, you're not the only one who likes them prominent-like.

This is a style I'll be experimenting in more, I think I'm teaching myself a lot. And thanks for the review, I've gotten a big morale boost from it :)

Wow.

I got done listening to this, and I was highly depressed. Thanks... Haha.

The super quiet snare-roll thing(?) sounded awesome. Definitely belongs there, and makes an interesting vibe to it.

This is something I could totally picture in Fallout 3, if you've played it, you'll know what I mean. If not... it's a game that takes place in a post WWIII world (World War 3). Nuclear warfare destroyed pretty much the whole world, and it's a desolate place. So yeah, a "Old deserted town" sounds about right. Haha.

Nice stuff here dawg.

Lamplighter responds:

Sorry, I need to write some happier music :)

It was actually a chunky hi-hat roll, but whatever. I really liked the effect too :) I wasn't sure about the volume of it, so I left it quieter so that the observant people would find it.

Hm. I've never played Fallout 3, but yeah, that definitely fits my vision from this song. Haha... one of these days I need to find a game designer and apply for a job. That'd be sweet :3

Thank ya very much!

Keep'n it classical!

Heck yeah man! Classical is the way to go! Sadly people here on newgrounds aren't interested in us classical makers. They'd rather have Envy produce a 29 second loop.

Anyways, enough ranting.

This sounds excellent. I can definitely hear where it could use improvement in the sound fonts, but as for the rest of it, it sounds really pretty great.

Your deep deep bass drums sound incredible, they really add to the whole ominous feeling.

The tone of it sounded great, but I think there were a couple times where you went a little off key. They weren't that often, and that bothersome, but it was just something I noticed.

Anyways, this sounds great. Keep at it!

popraz responds:

Thank you very much ! I like to kick it off-classical sometimes, but I feel like this how I can express myself best. Nice to see some interest in the classical side for a change. Again, thank you !

:/ -

It most certainly lacks progression :/

It builids up... and builds, and builds some more... and a lil more. Then a lil more. Then... a jazz outro?

What?!

Also, in the middle, you have a G.B. quote, that randomly comes in, and plays no more part... I think either he should have more, or none... It seemed a little too much out of place.

The overall structure was there, and it had some good melody ideas, but it certianly didn't feel as though it went anywhere.

So as this is, it get's a 8/10 from me.

P.S. G.B. Doesn't suck.

PizzaBox responds:

It totally went somewhere. The structure was

Intro > hook > verse 1 > bridge > verse 2 > bridge > verse 3 > outro.

It wasn't supposed to be

build > build > build > build > build > climax

Hrm.

It's odd.

Through an extreme amount of being sidetracked, I found this song. I clicked on a link, then another, then another, then something about a kid being stupid, then you saying "I got a random link here..." or something like that. Long story short, WTF HOW DID I GET HERE?

Haha, anyways. This is an awesome demo, I really like your style on this. The only thing I can think of that needs to be changed, and it really does, it's not just personal opinion. Is that your lead synth is a tad bit too loud. It hit at an odd frequency which greatly disturbed my ears.

However... Everything around it was awesome. I think this is a great piece. Nice work man!

ioneofmany responds:

Haha nice. I was going to actually delete this because it's not the best indicator of what I can do, but i'm glad you like some of the elements!

To be honest, I just wanted to make a super 'odd' synth with this new plugin. XD

I can create melody, I can create a beat, but I'm not the one who creates the emotions you feel.
