I believe I've used that drumkit before.

I can't quite pin down the name of the drum kit, but I've used it before, and it's most certainly a nice set.

As far as your EQ:

Drums: The drums were loud, and very present, that's not much of an issue, as most drums are the beat of the song, therefore they stand out. One thing I wasn't too sure about was how the hi-hat was panned to the right. It threw me off, and I didn't enjoy it that much.

Synths: The synths are overall pretty good, but I noticed that some of the higher note ones were a lil too loud at times, they could be dropped a lil bit in volume. The lower ones, and the textures in the background however were fine. They supplied a nice background and support for the rest of the song.

As for the rest of the song:

Drums: The drums were really quite excellent, they gave a strong feeling to the song, and made it feel somewhat like a rock song, even if it is lacking a guitar. It was overall a good choice of drums, even though I think the kick could use a little more reverb, but your choice to use toms throughout it was a good choice.

Synth Melodies: The overall bass melodies were simplistic, and accompanied the higher note synths well. There wasn't anything to great or too bad about them. The higher synth line, were for the most part fairly good, but (Correct me if I'm wrong) the chorus (?) was a little too much. It felt as though they were too edited.

Transitions were extremely smooth, they floated on through, and most of the time I didn't realize them until the 2nd listen.

Around 2:52, you start going into a weird transition, and I'm not sure I liked that at all. It seemed... too awkward to drop the pitch so rapidly.

Everything throughout this was nothing to great, but certainly was good. If I had to choose something that stood out to me, I'd have to say your percussion was the best throughout this.

Good job.

Birdinator99 responds:

Thanks for the review -- the drum kit is the standard rock & blues kit from Acoustica Beatcraft with a few tweaks.

I'm glad you liked the transitions -- the 2nd one is meant to symbolize a sharp drop in hope (despair), which is the reason for the quickness of it, but I understand it's not everyone's cup of tea.

This song doesn't really have a chorus, but I know what you're getting at -- thanks for the feedback!

I Sil Vous Plait.

That's the only bit of French I know. So, after saying that, theres not much I can critique on the lyrics. As I don't have the slightest Idea what it is you guys are saying.

As far as your rhythm with with the vocals, you've definitely got that, and there's nothing wrong with your tone, or mood of the vocals. They all work rather well.

Your beat in this song is really smooth. It flows well, and it transitions quite well. The kick has a really nice vibe to it, and it sets a good strong beat to the whole song. The snare is strong, and stands out rather well. It's got a good balance of treble, and suits the song rather well.

The bass is what impresses me a lot in this song, it's extremely deep, strong and powerful, but at the same time, it doesn't overpower the rest of the song. It's doing it's job damn near perfectly.

The brass sections are amazing. I've tried so often to make something sound good. However you guys just make it sound as easy as twiddling thumbs. The brass is an excellent addition, and accompanies the vocals really well.

Overall this is an excellent song. Thumbs up to you.

Loki responds:

Yeah, I personally love the brass parts :P

Whoa.

This threw me for a spin. It's certainly a melodic piece, and very well done.

Your guitar playing is quite impressive, I can't say much bad about it at all. It really makes this piece stand out, and really adds an ambient feel to it.

The percussion is extremely well constructed, it really supplies a solid foundation to the whole song. The transitions were excellently made, and the whole set was really quite nice. However, I have something against that hi-hat. It's the generic hi-hat that has been used so much that it really bothers me to hear it. This time however, some editing was done to it, and it was in the background. So it fit pretty well.

The synths created a great aura to this. They accompany the guitar very nicely and overall set a great background.

At first I wasn't too sure about this, however after listening through several times, this is an excellent piece. My only quarrel with it is the hi-hat. It's like a little splinter to me, nothing to destroy the beauty, but a prick in the side.

Nice submission man.

OH35 responds:

Thanks for the review, glad you liked it.
I'm not the guitarist by the way, I did the synths/pads and the bassline.
I'll refer the guitarist you did like his guitar abilities, don't worry.

About the hihat, did you mean the loop or the hihat sound? personally I don't know if it is a premade loop from a loop cd, since I didn't do the percussions, however I appreciate the criticism you gave regarding the hihat. If you could clarify the matter on pm I would really appreciate it.

Thanks again for your review.

Simplistic Indeed.

Simplistic isn't a bad thing, but it's not always the greatest thing either.

The thing that always stands out in house music: The kick. This was no exception. The kick was rather warm, and subtle, but it still had a nice punch to it. Good choice on the kick. As for the snare, it seemed a lil too much in the background. It sounded more like a sound effect then an actual snare to me. I'm rather new to house music, so it may not be the purpose of the snare to stand out more so, but I think the snare could use a little more presence.

The vocals that come in later in the song, are a good add on, and the panning effect with them, makes it all the better. Interesting stuff you did with them, but they definitely are a bonus addition.

The piano chords are really simplistic, not that there is anything wrong with that, but a little variation never hurt anyone. They could use to vary more then just the 2 notes that they do.

As far as transitions go, they were superb. Not much to say against them.

Overall the song wasn't anything ground-breaking, but it was certainly a good listen.

(Might I add, the first review I've ever done for them. You should feel special. =P)

Mans0n responds:

thank you sir for the awesome review! but the snare isn't actually a snare, its a clap lol

Half life? I think so.

This totally sounds as though it should be in a half-life game. It's got a super long background upfront feel... It's all around good.

Sounds as though it seriously should be.

I've got nothing against this track man. It's great.

ReFreezed responds:

I don't know about the melodic parts, but I can see (hear?) how the rest could fit there. Glad you like it.

Hehe. Let's contact Valve and demand that they use this! :P

Thanks for reviewing! :D

YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YE

MOAR YES!

This is absolutely great. I love how you put an amazing, almost drill'n bass effect to an old old classic. It sounds incredible man. You make things sound really good, especially this!

Awesome awesome awesome piece. I love what you added.

As far as the strings, I don't know if they were that bad, but I don't know if I would call them strings either. I think they fit though, the whole "Crazy Trance" feel of an oldie.

I definitely think that you beat Xarnor here though. His was good, but this is beyond the word great.

Epic stuff.

ReFreezed responds:

YES YES YES YES YES YES NO? YES! :D

I'm actually glad you mention DnB, although there isn't much drillin'. Glad you like it.

Awesome!

Maybe I just dislike these strings because I like the ones used in original better. Well, glad you like them as they are. (I'm using the word 'glad' much, yes? )

Heh, thanks. They're pretty different though. His is more classical while this is more... non-classical? (I dunno.)

YOU're epic! :D

Oh hey look. My samples :D

Just so you know. He got shot several times through the stomach, and the leg, and they were putting a turnacit (sp) on his leg, and were ripping the bullets along with intestine pieces from his stomach. In other words. Extreme pain.

As far as this song goes. I'm actually impressed with it. After hearing the opening, I was expecting earrappage to the extremes. Though it wasn't. Not in the least, it was some soothing classical HARDCORIZED!

Nice work you got here man.

(Did I hear a "Fuck" whispered in the background?)

PizzaBox responds:

No, there were definitely no swear words in this :)

Wow.

Okay.

So... the melody is nice, yes, but by... about 5 minutes I began thinking that that was enough.

When you say repeated, you certainly mean repeating.

Haha. I think that you could use a little variation possibly. Maybe a changeup every 32 measures, and then back, and then back?

I dunno, but 8 minutes of the same riff? *Whistles*

Lamplighter responds:

Yep... that's drone music for ya. I'll try to stick away from stuff this repetitive in the future, because I do agree with you. This needs variation. Eight minutes is going a tad bit overboard.

Thanks for listening, whether it was painful or not!

Ambient? Maybe. Awesome? Yeah.

Your ambiance really is really shown. The moods, expression, but most of all, the calm soothing tones that form into a song.

The drums are great, I'm not sure what was used for them, but they most certainly add to the whole experience.

I've already got the album, and have already listened through several times :3

Excellent work as always, Ben. Excelllennnnt.

- Long live music!

Lamplighter responds:

It appears I have a gift for ambient music :D Even if it's repetitive, I'm always glad when I make music that has as much emotion as I'm trying to share.

The drums were just a loop I chopped up, then put through a tape feedback Combinator that I learned how to make from a maniacal Englishman. I'll send it over if you like.

And thank you very much for getting the album, it makes me feel much less egotistic if I'm not the only one listening to it.

Merci beaucoup, Caleb. Tu es sympathique toujours :3

- Amen to that!

Wow.

Sir. This is full of win.

I have nothing. NOTHING bad to say about it.

Bass issss sooo good!

- 1 for remix.

This is sooooo good sir.

ReFreezed responds:

Thank you, very good sir!

The bass was supposed to be a big part of the song, so I'm glad you like it.

Thanks again! :D

I can create melody, I can create a beat, but I'm not the one who creates the emotions you feel.
