:/ -

It most certainly lacks progression :/

It builids up... and builds, and builds some more... and a lil more. Then a lil more. Then... a jazz outro?

What?!

Also, in the middle, you have a G.B. quote, that randomly comes in, and plays no more part... I think either he should have more, or none... It seemed a little too much out of place.

The overall structure was there, and it had some good melody ideas, but it certianly didn't feel as though it went anywhere.

So as this is, it get's a 8/10 from me.

P.S. G.B. Doesn't suck.

PizzaBox responds:

It totally went somewhere. The structure was

Intro > hook > verse 1 > bridge > verse 2 > bridge > verse 3 > outro.

It wasn't supposed to be

build > build > build > build > build > climax

Hrm.

It's odd.

Through an extreme amount of being sidetracked, I found this song. I clicked on a link, then another, then another, then something about a kid being stupid, then you saying "I got a random link here..." or something like that. Long story short, WTF HOW DID I GET HERE?

Haha, anyways. This is an awesome demo, I really like your style on this. The only thing I can think of that needs to be changed, and it really does, it's not just personal opinion. Is that your lead synth is a tad bit too loud. It hit at an odd frequency which greatly disturbed my ears.

However... Everything around it was awesome. I think this is a great piece. Nice work man!

ioneofmany responds:

Haha nice. I was going to actually delete this because it's not the best indicator of what I can do, but i'm glad you like some of the elements!

To be honest, I just wanted to make a super 'odd' synth with this new plugin. XD

Whoa whoa whoa there.

I really see no sense in any stars whatsoever.

There is no arranging, no note sequencing, no talent needed whatsoever in order to import a midi file and make it sound good.

"if you think this was easy to make then try doing the same thing yourself, i used presets yes but i changed up how they sound"

I could critique you on your incorrect typing skills, rather I'll say this:

Yes, I do think it's easy to drag a midi file into a music program. I'd be glad to do so to prove you so too!

So, overall, what I think needs to be changed, is that you need to do your own work, and leave the top 30 for people who actually deserve it.

100% sided with Steven-Polley.

ganon95 responds:

im not talking about how easy it was to import the midi, its what you do after the midi is in thats more difficult...

im sick of people telling me to make my own songs when i have made plenty already. the ONLY reason you are voting low is because this was a midi.

and don't say this song is not deserving of the top 30 because 9/10 of the songs (on most weeks) that are on the top 30 only get on that because the people who made them 0 bomb every other song so they get on the top, i never 0 bomb anything.

alot of the audio on the top 30 is usually a bunch of crap or halfway decent songs. of course there are some good ones that end up getting a download from me. but thats only about 3-4 songs a week.

Whoa.

Man, I'd love to do a drum cover to this, if you'd be okay with that man.

Nice thrashy riffs :D, decent vocals, great playing.

Just missing some bass and drums. Excellent stuff!

ax105 responds:

thanks man, The vocals are really done poorly because I only threw them in as a last second thought (kind of as a placeholder). I can't sing too well, so I left out all the clean vocals (a friend of mine might lay down the singing) for later. And yeah, a drum cover would be sweet!

Can't wait :-)

Woaaaaaaaaaaaah

Trippy. Trippy. Really trippy.

I love it. Extreme love.

The open, it sounds clashy, I mentioned that earlier, and I still agree with it. Haha. Sounds... odd, only at like :07 though.

As far as the rest though. Intense stuff man.

Extreme distortion, excellent drum programming. Awesome synth lines, even better.

This is intense stuff man. You've achieved an intense of absolute best Distorted trippy hardcore on newgrounds. Haha.

Close to best stuff yet man. Close.

PizzaBox responds:

I still think it's crap.

Alrighty...

So, from the opening, I was like "Great, more dance music that's just like all of newgrounds..."

I was mistaken... A pleasant surprise...

I love the opening. It's awesome. You shouldn't change it, I couldn't think of a better way for it to enter in.

I love your drum programming, it's so energetic, and the freq. changes/pitch changes were superbly used.

Your sweeping bass that paramento was almost perfectly on. It really supplied the song a strong backing.

I think this is excellent!

10/10

Downloaded.

Pm me when you release the whole thing?

KorpzeAudio responds:

Wow, thanks for the nice review.
I'll PM you if I release it... Not sure when I will (if I ever finish).

Well...

Not a fan of voice acting myself, except for the real top dogs like urbanartuk.

Anyways, your impersonation really wasn't too bad. It seemed to be lacking a little bit of the bassy voice that heath ledger had in the film, but yours certainly had the deranged feel to it. Another thing you had that most people way over emphasized, was the smacking of the lips. Most people tend to do something like: "WHY *Smack*
*Smack* *Smack* *Smack* SO SERIOUS? *Smack* *Smack*" Haha. You definitely had them placed where most people would of overkilled it.

As far as the storyline goes, the extra guy seemed a little bit cheesy at first, but he was really a great addition. You probably couldn't of had the story without him. The breathing for the first part was pretty creative. I could almost see the whole story playing out, though I think there should of been the sound of the Joker unsheathing something when his breathing started becoming louder and increased.

The ending was abrupt, and didn't (The words of the joker) Savor those last few seconds, and see what the person is truly like. It's hard to imitate death, I get that, but just a yell seemed a little too... abrupt. I think you could have ended with some muffled yells from the man being killed, as if the joker had stuck his hand over his mouth.

Anyways, this wasn't the best piece I've heard, but it was definitely a good'n. The story seemed a little far-fetched, but it was enjoyable.

Good work.

thanks a lot, that's something i always try to not overdo, the smacking. and in a perfect world i would have added effects, but it was more for voice acting than a full audio thing. i hope to make more and i might make some additions like that in further tapes.

Hrm...

First things first (Literally): The intro, I like the static intro, it's rather suiting since everything seems very lofi. Though the intro could go without the vocals, and if you wanted to keep them that badly I'd suggest lowering the volume.

Your vocals aren't bad, but they aren't the best. I think they could use to have a little saturation added to them. Make them more mellow, and fade in with the instruments.

The instruments all have sort of a faded feel to them, which is a really cool effect actually, but I think there is too big of a contrast between the instruments, and the vocals.

Your drums are really quite good. They compliment the whole song really nicely. I think they could use a little more bass though. The snare seems a little too strong in treble, but maybe that's just me.

It's a pretty good piece you've got here, and It was a nice little listen. You've got everything you need for a great piece, but there were a couple things I mentioned that stood out to me.

Nice work.

Jirohbomb responds:

Thanks for the review. I am going to re do the vocals soon actually. I am going to be redoing it with my friend who has done the recordings of an artist over here in my area. The beginning vocals, well I don't know, I do like that part, maybe I will lower the volume like you said. Thanks for the review.
G-Ray

Interesting.

I thought you had an interesting choice of opening synths. I'm not sure what to call them, but they were certainly something to catch the listener's attention.

The kick was nice and strong, the snare wasn't too loud, and could be used to stand out a lil more. You had some interesting choices of pauses for the beat, but they were pretty well handled, and added a personal zing to this song.

The synth that comes in at :48 seems a little too out of place, it's too present, and it doesn't quite match up with the other ones. At 1:17 the synth that starts the whole song off just leaves abruptly, I'd suggest a volume drop so it's not so sudden.

I'm not sure what the vocals were saying, but they complimented everything that was going around them quite well.

Overall, it was good, but there were a couple things that stood out to me, that I think could be edited a lil.

jxl180 responds:

Thank you, when I get a chance, I will tweak these things.

I believe I've used that drumkit before.

I can't quite pin down the name of the drum kit, but I've used it before, and it's most certainly a nice set.

As far as your EQ:

Drums: The drums were loud, and very present, that's not much of an issue, as most drums are the beat of the song, therefore they stand out. One thing I wasn't too sure about was how the hi-hat was panned to the right. It threw me off, and I didn't enjoy it that much.

Synths: The synths are overall pretty good, but I noticed that some of the higher note ones were a lil too loud at times, they could be dropped a lil bit in volume. The lower ones, and the textures in the background however were fine. They supplied a nice background and support for the rest of the song.

As for the rest of the song:

Drums: The drums were really quite excellent, they gave a strong feeling to the song, and made it feel somewhat like a rock song, even if it is lacking a guitar. It was overall a good choice of drums, even though I think the kick could use a little more reverb, but your choice to use toms throughout it was a good choice.

Synth Melodies: The overall bass melodies were simplistic, and accompanied the higher note synths well. There wasn't anything to great or too bad about them. The higher synth line, were for the most part fairly good, but (Correct me if I'm wrong) the chorus (?) was a little too much. It felt as though they were too edited.

Transitions were extremely smooth, they floated on through, and most of the time I didn't realize them until the 2nd listen.

Around 2:52, you start going into a weird transition, and I'm not sure I liked that at all. It seemed... too awkward to drop the pitch so rapidly.

Everything throughout this was nothing to great, but certainly was good. If I had to choose something that stood out to me, I'd have to say your percussion was the best throughout this.

Good job.

Birdinator99 responds:

Thanks for the review -- the drum kit is the standard rock & blues kit from Acoustica Beatcraft with a few tweaks.

I'm glad you liked the transitions -- the 2nd one is meant to symbolize a sharp drop in hope (despair), which is the reason for the quickness of it, but I understand it's not everyone's cup of tea.

This song doesn't really have a chorus, but I know what you're getting at -- thanks for the feedback!

I can create melody, I can create a beat, but I'm not the one who creates the emotions you feel.
